Flyers -
The death of former Flyers' defenseman Brad McCrimmon today was shocking.
He was flying with his Russian Kontinental Hockey League team when the plane they were on suddenly crashed shortly after takeoff. McCrimmon, who had previously been an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings, was the team's head coach.
All long-time fans remember him as part of the best-ever defensive duo in Flyers history when he was paired with Hall of Famer Mark Howe in the 1980s.
McCrimmon leaves behind his wife, a daughter and a son.
On a professional basis - he also leaves behind a great hockey legacy:
McCrimmon ranks 10th in NHL history with a career plus 444 mark. Future Hall of Famer, Detroit Red Wing, Nicklas Lidstrom ranks 11th with a plus 429 mark and Howe ranks 12th with a plus 400 mark.
McCrimmon's plus 83 mark, set in 1985-86, ranks 10th in NHL regular season history. That number actually ties him with Bobby Clark and was set during the season that former Flyer Pelle Lindbergh was killed.
God speed Brad.
