What do the Philadelphia Phillies' Late-Season Efforts Mean?

Headline Topic: What do Phillies' Late-Season Efforts Mean for This Season and Next?

An absolute wipe out last night of the New York Mets 16-1 reminded me of the 'good old days' (2007-2009) when the Phillies' offense was often humming. While it's still is a long-shot for the team to make the playoffs this season, at least fans can see that they are trying.

As far as next season goes: There still is a good core of players on this team. Along with them and a few other additions (at least CF, probably a LF and one solid 8th inning guy)  their is the potential for a playoff rebound next year.

Classic Headline Topic: The Phillies and MLB Wild Card expansion

The Phillies' game with the Mets was postponed due to rain. So, Cloyd has been pushed to Thursday and Hamels will go tomorrow. With every win being vital, we'll see if the Phils can pickup (or will lose) a 0.5 game tonight.

Yesterday's Yahoo feature about the expansion of baseball's playoff format generated some nice numbers and interesting responsive commentary. If you are interested reading more, here's the link:

Classic Headline Topic: The anniversary of Pete Rose's 4,192 hit.

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

For those who are interested, my recent feature comments on Rose's time with the Phillies and the complex feelings that many of us have about his gambling issues:
Phillies' great Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, and baseball justice

Recent Headline Topic: The Eagles

Another Eagles last-moment win, as they defeated the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

With all deep analysis left to those who have far more football experience than I do, can a team continue to play the way that it has and still win on a consistent basis?
