My brand new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available.

Headline Topics: 76ers' Opener + Halloween

)))I wish the Sixers energized new ownership, Doug Collins and his improved team all the best as they open the 2012-13 season. If everything goes well, this basketball team should have a good-to-great season.

Obviously, Andrew Bynum's health is key. If he's the type of force that's been seen in the past, this team can make a good regular season and playoff run.

)))Happy Halloween to all readers. One of my personal favorite times of the year. Great memories of childhood days and more recent fun parties with friends. All the best to everyone for tricks and treats tonight!

Recent Headline Topic: Phillies' 2013 Plans

Now that the Giants are World Series champs, it's time for the baseball world to look toward 2013.

As far as the Phillies go: Picking up Ruiz' option was expected, as was the buyout of Polanco, Contreras and Wigginton.

This team is at a crossroads, as all hardcore fans know most deeply. Amaro's choices won't be easy and I'm not certain that they will simply rebound into the playoffs again next season.

For the first time in more than a decade, it's unsettling to be a Phillies' fan. I hope he can turn things around.

Baseball cards

For those of us who are old enough to remember
When Baseball Cards were King, the spring is always a special time of year.

Bygone days spent with elementary school days and family members opening packs of Topps cardboard gold never truly fade away.

Recent Headline Topic:  World Series + Eagles' Game

All I want to say today is: All hail to the San Francisco Giants and to their fans. No one, but them, say their World Series' victory coming.

As a baseball fan it was a pleasure to see! Congrats from a life-long Phillies' fan to all involved.

I had hoped that this Eagles' year would be a special one for Andy Reid, in light of his son's unfortunate death. Due to the loss to the Falcons this season could move in a few different directions very soon. All is not lost, so time will tell.

Each of these Flyers' legends (Brian Propp, Dave Poulin and Tim Kerr) deserved their own feature article:

News Headline: Presidential Debates are Over, Now...

If you are an undecided voter after all this time that must mean that you are undecided about voting - rather than about voting for either President Obama, or Governor Romney (or a third party candidate).

All I ask, is that you do vote. Don't feel like your vote doesn't count. Don't think that you don't know enough to cast your opinion in a formal way and don't forget about the state and local elections wherever you live.

Whoever you choose, for any office, makes you a part of the election process.

You matter and you count.

Classic Headline Topic:  Hope for Phillies' Darin 'Babe' Ruf

Seeing Darin Ruf hit numerous home runs out of a Double-A park in Reading was thrilling. Seeing him hit his first major league home run, during the first game that he started in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies was priceless (to coin an advertising cliche.)

Will he actually develop into a major league player? Could that happen by next season? No one knows the answers to these questions, but personal stories have always drawn me to this specific game.

Here is my feature article about him.

Classic Headline Topic: The anniversary of Pete Rose's 4,192 hit.

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

For those who are interested, my recent feature comments on Rose's time with the Phillies and the complex feelings that many of us have about his gambling issues:
Phillies' great Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, and baseball justice

Recent Headline Topic: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.
