Headline Topic: Thanksgiving
I once read something along these lines and thought it would be interesting to present it below for those who see this holiday in a unique way:
......Hey, let's be honest: Thanksgiving can be a forced day for many.
How many people actually like all of their forced genetic connections, aka "family members" that they are connected to by blood, marriage, or whatever.
Some "friends" leave others high and dry if their lives move in different directions, or if they simply invent reasons to "move forward".
Co-workers are often people who you are paid to, rather than want to, know. In these desperate economic times, many people choose to throw each other under the bus in the workplace if it means that another penny can be earned.
Neighbors. Hey, they ain't what they used to be and that's putting it mildly.
So, what should we be thankful for? How about honesty.
From that starting point maybe more adults will stop behaving like true cowards. Maybe more kids will stop acting like drama queens (and kings) every second of the day.
But, an expanding entitlement culture won't simply turn from "me-first" pursuits overnight. It will need to happen after a lot of punching, kicking, screaming, battling and spitting.
Responsible must people deal with those who have been emboldened to behave like children for their entire adult lives. Who knows if this battle will be won.
Such is life on Thanksgiving at this moment in history.
*******That was an interesting take on this big US holiday. We all know people who think like that and maybe we've even thought like that ourselves at times.
This post had nothing to do with sports, like I normally write about in this space. Hopefully, reading it allows everyone to look at their own lives and ask themselves if they are grateful, or not.
Happy Thanksgiving from me, my family and friends to all readers who are out there in this digital world. :-)

Recent Headline Topic: The new Reading Fightin Phils
My experience working in minor league baseball at the start of my career taught me that marketing was king. That's why I love the Reading Phillies bold move of re-branding their team name and becoming the Reading Fightin Phils.
It's basically the same name, has a nice reference to nickname (The Fightin's) that many fans have used for years and caused everyone to talk about the team for two weeks in November.
Many of the locals, who had enraged red faces for the past few weeks, should notice the tint in their cheeks subside just in time for spring to arrive. They'll head out to the same great ballpark, park for free, experience the same great atmosphere, pay the same great low prices, watch the same great quality of play, with the same great family crowds in 2013.
The only people who would actually refuse to watch Reading's Double-A team next year, because their name was slightly adjusted, should seek immediate mental health treatment for the condition known as: "Get-over-yourself-and-grow-up".

Baseball cards
For those of us who are old enough to remember
When Baseball Cards were King, the spring is always a special time of year.

Bygone days spent with elementary school days and family members opening packs of Topps cardboard gold never truly fade away.
