Stanley Cup

I'll make this short and sweet: The Los Angeles Kings are fully supported in their Stanley Cup bid against the New Jersey Devils.

The Flyers control the East Coast Hockey Syndicate along with the New York Rangers. The Kings, who now own the Western territory, must rub out those Jersey goons if all is to stay right in Iceville. :-)

Memorial Day THANK YOU To Our United States Military

Like many people, I love sports. But, Memorial Day is a time to remember all the human souls who gave their lives for all of us.

God Bless them, their families and friends.

THANK YOU are two words that are not enough, but all that I can offer along with my thoughts and prayers.

Philadelphia 76ers - Thank You

76ers

Game 7 didn't turn out like Sixers fans hoped. Too many turnovers, poor shot selection, etc. But, those are signs of a young team.

In the spirit of all great sports fans, we wish the Boston Celtics the best from here on out.

This Philly squad played good defense and never gave up. With whatever roster changes are coming, the new ownership group has their heart in the right place and that gives me great confidence that better days should be ahead.

At the beginning of the season, I had predicted a run for the Sixers that would last at least two playoff rounds. I offered that comment based upon Doug Collins strong leadership and the spirit within his team.

To fall one game short of that predicted goal leaves me satisfied on a purely gut-level. On an infinitely more important plane, is how happy I am to see the great game of basketball moving to its rightful spot in the city of Philadelphia. That spot is directly within the consciousness of the other three professional sports teams and their fans.

Onto next season. Go Sixers!!!

Game 7. For all who believed, keep believing.

As to whether Doug Collins' guys can knock off the Celtics...who knows. But, what a story it will be if they can actually do it tonight.

Phillies

So, Cliff Lee and Shane Victorino got into in the dugout last night. While they didn't come to blows, their mutual moxie revealed a turbulent undercurrent that exists in this year's team.

Lee signed a long-term deal expecting to have a shot at multiple World Series titles. Victorino is in the last year of his deal and might not last the season, depending upon how the schedule plays out.

Both men still have the on-field fight in them and that's what matters most.

Phillies

Can Chase Utley play in the infield for any stretch of time this season after he returns?

Some of the Philly sports writers have wondered if he might be better in left field - with thoughts about Chipper Jones outfield venture with the Atlanta Braves.

It might not happen, but it's an interesting thought.

Phillies

How about that 'Chooch' in the cleanup spot. Who would have 'thunk' it all those years ago.

Well, Carlos Ruiz believes in himself and that's how everything great happens. One person using their talent and free will to succeed.

No matter where this season takes Ruiz, he is as much a part of this great era as anyone.

How great a victory tonight would be. Can it happen? Well, this team has surprised us before.

Best of luck to Doug Collins and the guys, no matter what happens.

Phillies
A team that is adrift for sure. After winning six straight, they lose four in a row.

Keep an eye on how they continue to do against these plus-.500 teams. Ruben Amaro, Jr. will, that's for sure.
