Philadelphia Phillies' 2013 Plans + Philadelphia Flyers' fans

Headline Topic: Phillies' 2013 Plans

What would you do to fill the Phillies three outfield holes?

I would use some combination of Mayberry, Nix, and Pierre (re-sign him for '13). Those players should help to fill, or at least offer platoon support at one outfield position.

I'm uncertain about Brown. His injury history makes me wonder how he can be expected to hold up for a full major league season.

At least two veterans must be obtained through free agency, or trades (a combination of both) to reset this team's outfield situation.

To read more about the 2013 Phillies team, see my latest Yahoo Sports article:
Phillies' Slim Playoff Hopes Have Been Trimmed

Headline topic #2: Flyers' fans

I invite those fans who realize that this season might not start on time to have some fun while reading about themselves in my latest hockey feature that we written with you (us) in mind:

Baseball cards

For those of us who are old enough to remember When Baseball Cards were King, the spring is always a special time of year.

Bygone days spent with elementary school days and family members opening packs of Topps cardboard gold never truly fade away.

Hockey

Here is a hockey story that all ice fans will like: The mystery behind these 1970s Topps hockey cards is revealed.

Flyers

What is the name of the Flyers ECHL affiliate?

For those who don't know, the answer is found in my Yahoo Sports article:
NHL lockout could serve some Philadelphia Flyers' Purposes

Eagles

All the best to Andy Reid and his team tonight. This season isn't just about football this year for the Eagles' head coach.

I wish him a SUPER BOWL year.

Sixers

The 76ers major summer trade should help the remaining members of last season's playoff group to become that much better.

This has become a far more balanced squad through all of the offseason moves. Most importantly, they will be led by Doug Collins who is ready to take his basketball team to new heights.

Philadelphia Phillies' Question + Philadelphia Flyers' fans

Headline Topic: Phillies

Which current Phillies do you think will/won't be back next season?

Consensus among the fans seems to be building that Jimmy Rollins 3-year contract might not be completed, or if it is, that he will certainly hit lower in the batting order through its fulfillment.

Juan Pierre is a nice veteran presence on this team. He plays the game the right way. There surely is one space on the roster and enough salary space available for his likely modest demands to keep one of the better small-ball players of this era around next season.

Headline topic #2: Flyers' fans

Flyers

Flyers to possibly ink Predators captain Shea Weber and Coyotes captain Shane Doan this summer?

Their joint additions would enhance the character of 'the room' and the talent on the ice.

To see them both pull on the orange and black jersey would be quite a sight. Hard to say if one, or both, will happen. But, summertime is about dreaming.

Phillies

Boy, it seems likely that the Phils won't be able to get enough wins to make the playoffs this season.

But, Amaro may very well revamp this team on the fly as long as he can re-sign Hamels. That agreement (or lack thereof) will set the course for this franchise for years.

Flyers

As the Flyers wait for Nashville to make their decision on the Weber offer, the League wonders if this is the last huge deal of this type to be made in the foreseeable future.

With the new CBA at hand this season, or at some negotiated point, one would think so. But, who really knows when it comes to $ and $ports?

Phillies

Flyers

The Flyers are ALWAYS going for it. Whether they actually sign, or later obtain via trade, Shea Weber isn't the only issue to be considered.

This organization genuinely tries to succeed. That is what real capitalism is all about, measured risk.

Phillies

It isn't an over-the-top reaction to say that each Phillies loss brings them close to making trades that will basically end this season and prepare for the next few.

Cole Hamels, Shane Victorino, Juan Pierre and others are on the block.

Sixers - Celtics Playoffs, Phillies Catcher Ruiz should hit cleanup and Preakness Stakes Contenders

Over ----2  1/2  Million---- hits since my first Yahoo story was published on 2/1/11.

Sixers

The one-point loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 1 could have been a win, but you can't have everything.

It would be best to take Game 2 tomorrow, because it would seemly overly challenging to win four out of a possible five games from a good team like this one is.
Phillies

Juan Pierre has sold me on his continuing ability to get on base and generate runs. He should play in left
field the majority of the time and hit no lower than second in every game.

Carlos Ruiz is having a breakout year. I would like to see him hit cleanup for a few games to see how it goes. He's mentally strong enough to handle whatever the results of that experiment would be.

Pence just isn't cutting it in Howard's spot.

Flyers

Game 1 always feels like a scouting mission. Each side aggressively trying to feel out the other.

Here is a hockey story that all ice fans will like: The mystery behind these 1970s Topps hockey cards is revealed.

Phillies

Papelbon has quietly gotten off to a very nice start.

Interested to see if Rollins is able to produce from the leadoff slot in a way that helps to create consistent first inning runs. Also, to see where Pierre fits into the lineup below him when he starts in left field.

Phillies

Will Juan Pierre's leadoff efforts go well? It would be great if they do, as the Phillies surely could use an extra OBP numbers that they can get.

Will Thome be the first Phillie to go deep?

Will Cliff Lee be traded if the Phillies re-sign Cole Hamels for money reasons? Think that can't happen?
Really?

Play ball!

Will Joe Blanton win more games than Vance Worley, or one of the three aces?

Will the Phillies middle relief men smooth the path to Papelbon?

Will Juan Pierre still have enough left in the tank to lead a renewed Phillies offense that is based on OPS (on base plus slugging percentage) numbers?
