For all the gamblers (and other pool players) out there...here's your NFL Championship Sunday fix:

New England over Baltimore

San Francisco over Atlanta

No point spreads, no deep gridiron philosophy. Just the winners.

If I'm wrong, you pay your bookie. If I'm  half-right, it's a push. If I'm totally right, send me 10%.

Recent headline: Inside Access with the Philadelphia Flyers

It was another positive visit to training camp yesterday. The Flyers' organization has always treated me with respect and decency. It is rightfully recognized as one of the best in the city and in all of sports.

The assembled roster for this 2013 half-year is good. Time will tell if this team can have in-season player development among the "youngsters", withstand injuries and also beat better competition during the first 48 and expected subsequent spring session.

Game day, today against the Pittsburgh Penguins, looks to be a nice iced treat.

The members of the Philadelphia media are only seen through their words and media appearances. Behind the scenes, they are a solid collective group of hard-working, talented people. Much as in any profession, their efforts generally go unnoticed (or are not fully appreciated) by the general public.

Working in the media - be it on a FT, PT, or freelance basis, is not an easy endeavor. Travel, long hours, pressured deadlines, etc. are all accomplished by those people who can meet the challenge.

Philadelphia Phillies' free agent frenzy?

My brand new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available.

Headline Topic:  Phillies' free agent choices

The Phillies must make smart small moves this offseason. They don't have the payroll space available to them, as they did in past seasons.

I hope that Ruben Amaro, Jr. follows the advice that his mentor Pat Gillick gives him and continues to allow Ed Wade's influence to restock the farm system.

I'm aware that Gillick and Wade are background players, but each did a fine job within their areas of expertise while they held power. Amaro's record is very questionable at this time in history. He must do better starting right now.

If you are an undecided voter after all this time that must mean that you are undecided about voting - rather than about voting for either President Obama, or Governor Romney (or a third party candidate).

All I ask, is that you do vote. Don't feel like your vote doesn't count. Don't think that you don't know enough to cast your opinion in a formal way and don't forget about the state and local elections wherever you live.

Whoever you choose, for any office, makes you a part of the election process.

Baseball Free Agency + Phillies' Presidential Election

My brand new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headline Topics: Free Agency + The Election

)))The Phillies seem certain to add some bodies through free agency. It would seem, based on his comments and actions within the last year, that Amaro won't go big when filling a variety of positional holes. His budget constraint issues are big.

So, it appears that he will try to get some quality players at decent "prices" on the free agent market. If he does get a big-money guy, I'm wondering if he will unexpectedly move someone on the current team? As to who that might be, your guess is as good as mine.

)))I recently had some fun with Phillies' Presidential election tickets in this blog. I appreciate everyone's comments in that regard, as it was a fun and funny venture. As far as the real election goes next week: Vote, unless you have already voted early.

Readers know that because this is mainly a sports' blog, I don't promote candidates, or political ideology in this space.

Recent Headline Topic: Phillies' 2013 Plans

Now that the Giants are World Series champs, it's time for the baseball world to look toward 2013.

As far as the Phillies go: Picking up Ruiz' option was expected, as was the buyout of Polanco, Contreras and Wigginton.

This team is at a crossroads, as all hardcore fans know most deeply. Amaro's choices won't be easy and I'm not certain that they will simply rebound into the playoffs again next season.

For the first time in more than a decade, it's unsettling to be a Phillies' fan. I hope he can turn things around.

Headline Topics: 76ers' Opener + Halloween

)))I wish the Sixers energized new ownership, Doug Collins and his improved team all the best as they open the 2012-13 season. If everything goes well, this basketball team should have a good-to-great season.

Obviously, Andrew Bynum's health is key. If he's the type of force that's been seen in the past, this team can make a good regular season and playoff run.

)))Happy Halloween to all readers. One of my personal favorite times of the year. Great memories of childhood days and more recent fun parties with friends. All the best to everyone for tricks and treats tonight!
