Historic World Series' Game + Another Flyers' Departure

My brand new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available.

These stories were specifically written for people who like to read, but don't have much time to do actually do so. Humor, horror, mystery, adventure, travel, sports and a few selected stories are all wrapped inside this mini-tome. Thank you for considering this download.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headline Topic: World Series

Thrilling win by the San Francisco Giants over the Detroit Tigers in the first game of the  World Series.

Pablo Sandoval's historic 3-home run night and Justin Verlander's surprising effort and Barry Zito's good start all led to that Giants' home win. Can they take Game 2?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headline Topic II: Scott Hartnell + Three Flyers' Legends

Scott Hartnell's decision to play in Finland is just the latest sign that the NHL lockout will drone on endlessly.

In the meantime, Flyers' fans have said that they like my retro features. Best to think about the good old days right now. :-)

Each of these Flyers' legends (Brian Propp, Dave Poulin and Tim Kerr) deserved their own feature article:

Here is a link to the story about Propp:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
News Headline: Presidential Debates are Over, Now...

If you are an undecided voter after all this time that must mean that you are undecided about voting - rather than about voting for either President Obama, or Governor Romney (or a third party candidate).

All I ask, is that you do vote. Don't feel like your vote doesn't count. Don't think that you don't know enough to cast your opinion in a formal way and don't forget about the state and local elections wherever you live.

Whoever you choose, for any office, makes you a part of the election process.

You matter and you count.

Recent Headline Topic: Eagles' Move

I interviewed Juan Castillo for a feature How Concussions May Be Linked to ALS - Part 1 that I wrote about former Patriots and Eagles' fullback Kevin Turner.

Juan spoke very highly of Kevin and of everyone who we referenced on that day. I also enjoyed speaking to him about his own football career. He is a personable, honest man. I wish him all the best in his life and career moving forward.

Recent Headline Topic:  Hope for Phillies' Darin 'Babe' Ruf

Seeing Darin Ruf hit numerous home runs out of a Double-A park in Reading was thrilling. Seeing him hit his first major league home run, during the first game that he started in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies was priceless (to coin an advertising cliche.)

Will he actually develop into a major league player? Could that happen by next season? No one knows the answers to these questions, but personal stories have always drawn me to this specific game.

Here is my feature article about him.

Classic Headline Topic: The anniversary of Pete Rose's 4,192 hit.

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

For those who are interested, my recent feature comments on Rose's time with the Phillies and the complex feelings that many of us have about his gambling issues:
Phillies' great Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, and baseball justice

Recent Headline Topic: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.

Presidential Debate, Monday Night Football, and the Baseball Playoffs

My brand new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available for a free download.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
News Headline:  Tonight's Presidential Debate

Tonight's Presidential Debate (the third and final one in the series) is important to watch. It involves foreign policy, which always has an impact on everyday life in the United States.

I don't care whether you support Barack Obama, or Mitt Romney. I do care if you think Monday Night Football, or Game 7 of the National League Championship Series is more important. THEY ARE NOT.

I'm a sports' fan who loves baseball and likes football. I'm watching the debate live and in its entirety. While sports has been a very positive influence in advancing civil rights in our society, both of these games don't matter when compared to this debate and the upcoming election.

P.S. The debate will be over by 1030pm, so you will still be able to catch the important moments in those games anyway. ;-)

News Headline: President Obama and Governor Romney

The upcoming Presidential election is very important. Beyond people who we know who live in other parts of the world, a quick internet search allows us to see versions of reality.

Despite the shaky economic conditions that have existed since 2008, the middle- and lower-class in this country are living far better than people in many countries around the world.

No one should allow this fact to avert our gaze from the issues of inequality that exist in this country. People also shouldn't claim to be for justice, but also openly engage in "shifting" discrimination.

Our world, or our country will never be perfect. I'm proud of the United States, no matter who the President was four years ago, is now, or will be after the election.

I encourage people from both major parties, or the minor parties, to vote for whoever they feel the best federal, state and local candidates are in November.

Recent Sports Headline Topic: Baseball playoffs

Despite the Giants win over the Cardinals last night, it still looks like a Tigers- Cards series.

Jim Leyland was the one-time candidate for the Phillies' managerial job before Charlie Manuel was hired. Leyland has long been seen in baseball circles as the smarter, more seasoned guy. He very well may be.

But, he and Manuel both have one World Series championship and two League pennants on their resumes.

The coming Fall Classic will give Leyland the opportunity to pull ahead.

Jerry Seinfeld's Newest Show "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" Is Great

These stories were specifically written for people who like to read, but don't have much time to do actually do so. Humor, horror, mystery, adventure, travel, sports and a few selected stories are all wrapped inside this mini-tome.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Headline: Jerry Seinfeld...still the best!

I love Jerry's newest "show", which is actually online through crackle.com. It's called Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee

Great to see this old friend and some funny people join him for coffee and a trip in a different classic car each week. Their conversations are worth watching in any digital form.

Anyone who liked Seinfeld, or appreciates his observational humor will appreciate this show. Clearly, his move to the online world is one that everyone who is anyone will make eventually as TV and the internet become one.

While the weekly episodes, that he posted on Thurday's at 9pm for nostalgia's sake have recently wrapped for the season, all episodes are archived.
