Extra Chris Pronger Notes + Flyers

Flyers

Chris Pronger was seen today at the Skate Zone.

He was sporting a full beard and spoke with his teammates for awhile.

It must have been a good day for him to travel, as concussion symptoms are debilitating.

The team has suffered because many d-men have had to play for longer periods of time than would have normally been the case. Plus, the need for rookies to fill-in hasn't replaced what he brought to the ice. (Not that something of that nature was expected.)
As to whether the team should acquire another d-man for the playoff run is an open question. As always, what the team would need to surrender will make all the difference as to who they may be able to obtain in this regard.

Flyers

Always thoughts about that first Cup win when Boston returns to town...

The contest against the Bruins today should prove interesting for a variety of reasons.

Can the team win its eighth straight?

How will that top line continue to adjust to life without Giroux?

Is the defense going to continue its improved play without Pronger?

Many positives for this remixed group of Flyers this year. Can they keep it up facing severe adversity?

Flyers

Claude Giroux and Chris Pronger have no exact date of returning to the ice.

Eric Lindros has suggested that the red line should be put back into the game to reduce the speed of the game. That suggestion makes more sense to me than anything I've heard.

Speed and open play has made the game more thrilling, but its dangerously thrilling and that's not good.

Flyers present and future

TY to over ---950,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

The game against the Penguins last night was a nice win, but not a true test as Sidney Crosby didn't play.

The Flyers do have a young, energetic group with a nice mix of veterans like Timonen, Briere and Hartnell. The addition of Jagr has been tremendous as well.

Pronger's physical health and Bryzgalov's ability to be consistent will tell the tale of this season by spring's end.

Happy Thanksgiving: Flyers, Phillies and Eagles notes

TY to over ---900,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

Good OT win by the Flyers last night.

Yes, their defense was shaky. But, in Pronger's absence these things will happen.

Bob did well in taking over for Bryzgalov.

Black Friday is hopefully a good one.

Phillies -

They need to have a number of Christmas wish list items checked off in the next few weeks.

Their ability to do so will determine how hopeful 2012 can be.

Eagles -

Yes, there is always hope. But, there is also realism.

Never over, until its over. So, let's see what this weekend brings.

Flyers notes

TY to over ---900,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

A trip to New York to play the Islanders has often generated good results.

Still playing without Chris Pronger and Braydon Coburn, it's difficult to tell how the team's defense will perform.

The Islanders have been shutout in two consecutive games. Possibly, the return of Jaromir Jagr will keep the pressure in their zone tonight.

Joe Paterno to retire, Flyers, & Phillies

TY to over ---850,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Penn State -

News today that Joe Paterno will retire creates a compromise between those who believed he should have been made to leave now and others who want to allow him to have the appearance of control over his own fate.

Flyers -

Pronger might be back as the team heads to Tampa.

Whether he returns tonight, or later in the week, his presence will help to steady a defense that has looked similar to last spring's playoff corp.

Phillies -

Madson might be nearing a deal, with Papelbon as a fall back. (Or vice versa.)

In any regard, Amaro's changes regarding the starting lineup will decide if this team can be a legit contender next season.

Eagles loss + Flyers getting back to business

TY to over ---850,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Eagles -

The loss to the Bears on Monday Night Football was a tough one to swallow.

The increasingly difficult road to any possible playoff chance is set now.

If the team doesn't make the playoffs, strong organizational change seems likely.

Flyers -

The Flyers are expecting both Chris Pronger and Matt Read back this week.

Pronger's veteran leadership and Read's rookie input highlight a nice mix on this year's squad filled with players that are similar to both.

Philadelphia Flyers' offense humming

TY to over ---820,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

The Flyers' offense has been surprisingly strong. As a matter of fact, it's one of the better units in the NHL. Consider that they are doing this without Chris Pronger no less.

The impact of Jaromir Jagr and the "style" addition of numerous other new players is clearly the reason for the smoother flow.

Yes, this has caused a looser defense to emerge. But, the seasonal impact appears to be one that should offer the team a consistent well to tap.
