Phillies free agents

TY to over ---820,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

Rollins, Madson and Oswalt are Type A free agents.

If the Phillies offer them arbitration, they can get some high level draft picks in the form of compensation.

That would help them to restock their system.

But, that also could allow the players to accept their offer. So, time will tell how this all plays out.

Phillies reach the end & Now onto the Flyers

TY to over ---760,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

An offense that was not able to produce led to the Phillies first-round sweep.

Any analysis that believes in some type of deep insight about matchups, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Charlie Manuel, etc. is really grasping at straws.

If you can't produce consistently at the plate in the playoffs your opponent would need to be even worse offensively for you to win. The Cardinals weren't.

The best team in baseball each season (meaning April through October, not April through September) wins the World Series. The Phillies were not the best team in baseball in 2011. At least four other teams (all of who have advanced to the League Championships) are better.

A long winter, followed by a different spring training are yet to come.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... They beat the Bruins in Game 1 and face the Devils in Game 2.

The Flyers will fly under the radar until January.

Depending upon how well, or how poorly, the Eagles do won't matter. People are into pro and college football for the time being.

This team will grow and possibly surprise as the season moves forward.

Phillies - Oswalt - Game 4 - & Flyers notes

TY to over ---750,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

Great effort by Hamels needs to be matched by Oswalt in Game 4 of the NLDS.

"Big Ben" Francisco's pinch-hit 3-run homer evoked memories of Matt Stairs in '08!

This team's bullpen is very thin. Hopefully people like Bastardo, Worley and maybe even Blanton can pick up the slack. Ryan Madson can't be relied upon to carry the entire load.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... A number of interesting waiver moves capped an amazing number of months since the team lost to the Bruins.

When the Flyers open the new season against the Bruins tomorrow it is truly the beginning of a new era.

Phillies Roy Oswalt happily back on track - Werth still grim in Washington

TY to over 620,000 readers of my Yahoo Sports articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies - Roy Oswalt looked totally back to his old self in blanking the Washington Nationals 5-0.

If he remains healthy the Phillies should roll through the playoffs and into the World Series. From there, the specific American League matchup would determine whether they can win their third-ever championship.

Jayson Werth - did you really have to take that money? The fans that said he did might be the same people who took a job they came to hate and rationalize decisions they see as similar to their own.
