Philadelphia Eagles - Dallas Cowboys' Sunday Night Game

Headline Topic: Eagles - Cowboys Game

Another defeat, to the Dallas Cowboys no less, continues this season's misery. And the season can't possibly end soon enough.

A fresh start for this entire organization grows closer by the week. I don't know where many major changes will lead to, but they are coming.

Andy Reid has been a very good coach. We can not say that he's been a great coach, because he didn't get that Super Bowl win. For me that is the dividing line between good and great. Responses to the contrary only come through use of emotional logic.

Recent Headline Topic: MMA Phenomena

I attended another great MMA event this weekend with a friend of mine. It was the second time that I've had the pleasure of seeing these fights live. I've written a feature article about it, which will be published shortly.

I encourage fans of any sport to attend one of these events when you can. The excitement of the crowd and the efforts of the fighters will likely win you over to this superb athletic adventure.

Recent Headline Topic: Winter Meetings

1. This is a great time of year for baseball fans, as the hot stove is lit at the Winter Meetings next week in Nashville, Tenn.

I have always loved Baseball's Winter Meetings because trade and free agent conjecture is in the air. The offseason is a time when fans from all teams can consider which players might be coming and going.

Many years ago my school friends and I traded baseball cards. Then in junior high we played APBA and Strat-O-Matic fantasy card/dice games in anticipation of the coming season.

Here's hoping this season's Winter Meetings yield some early Christmas gifts.

Headline Topics: Phillies

1. Not tendering an offer to Nate Schierholtz might not seem like a big move and it really isn't. However, the removal of that player from the 2013 picture (unless he's re-signed as a free agent) continues the opening of payroll space.

2. I expect Amaro to make some type of splash this month. Possibly that will begin to happen at the Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn. next week. It might not be in the form of a big-name signing, but he will add a variety of players to his team before the New Year begins. He knows that he has to be aggressive and not bottom-feed for talent in order to legitimately re-position his team for another playoff push.

Headline Topics: Phillies

1. Now that the deal for Houston Astros' reliever Wilton Lopez has fallen through, I expect Amaro to pounce on a similar veteran who can lock-down the eighth inning. Of course, he also has four positional holes to fill/solidify. So, his fall/winter work remains tough.

Philadelphia Phillies' Carlos Ruiz, ADHD and Reality

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headline Topics: Phillies

1. The issue with Carlos Ruiz and his use of an ADHD drug is questionable for the moment. First, we need to learn if he truly needs this medication. That will be determined by whether he submits a doctor's authorization to Major League Baseball to continue using the drug.

2. If he does make that request, then we should take him at his word that he needed it. An honest mistake. If he doesn't submit that request, then it will appear as though he may have been using that for performance reasons. While amphetamines aren't in the same category as steroids, they are banned. So, discipline is warranted.

1. The fact that Ruiz' suspension was for an ADHD drug makes this an interesting case. Does he have that condition and was taking the drug for it? Doesn't he have it and was using the drug for energy purposes?

Let's see how this plays out a bit before rushing to judgement. Along with that we can also see how Amaro handles his 2013 plans and any potential extension for Ruiz' contract which ends after this season as well.
