2013: My Best to All Social Media Friends in the New Year

My best to all social media friends in the New Year. God Bless.
---Sean O'Brien

Recent Headline Topics

Philadelphia Eagles: The end of the Andy Reid era is not one that I will be cheering.

He is among the best coaches to ever lead the team. I don't place him at the top, as there are many coaches who I never saw. Plus, winning percentages is only one measure of success. The many playoff appearances are also countered by the lack of a championship.

Rancor isn't on my tongue today. I wish him the best in his career and more importantly, peace in his family in 2013.

NHL Lockout: Multiple reports show that real progress is being made toward a settlement in the NHL lockout agreement. Cautious optimism must rule this day and the next few that will follow.

Let me be very brief: If the Eagles had drafted someone like RGIII, would the world look vastly different right now? Of course.

The draft is so critical. Clearly, this area of the Eagles' operation has not been consistently good enough over the years. Regardless of a team's record, quality players must be added each season.

Injuries only provide a certain percentage of an 'explanation' for where this organization has gone during the past two seasons.

A new infusion of decision-makers is needed at a variety of levels in Eagle-town. Then, they will need a few years to have their plans work.

Philadelphia Eagles To Fire Andy Reid Within 24 Hours

Philadelphia Eagles: Various reports indicate that head coach Andy Reid will be fired within 24 hours of the team's crushing, season-ending loss (42-7) to the New York Giants. The loss dropped the Eagles' record to

This season's 4-12 record gives Reid an all-time Eagles' record of 130-93-1.

More on the person who is rightly considered the greatest head coach in team history in coming posts.

On a personal level I wish Andy the best and know that he is a genuine person outside of the media spotlight. What he went thorough this season, due to the death of his son, is unimaginable. Football is a job and he will get another one of those if he is, in fact fired and wants to continue working in the future.

Headline Topic:  Operation Hat Trick

Today's post is short and sweet.

I think that the Operation Hat Trick (Link to the radio broadcast is here -->> game is a great event for so many reasons.

Kudos to Scott Hartnell, Brad Richards and all of the guys who made this happen.

All money from this charity event, held in Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall in New Jersey benefits the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Recent Headline Topic: The new Reading Fightin Phils

My experience working in minor league baseball at the start of my career taught me that marketing was king. That's why I love the Reading Phillies bold move of re-branding their team name and becoming the Reading Fightin Phils.

It's basically the same name, has a nice reference to nickname (The Fightin's) that many fans have used for years and caused everyone to talk about the team for two weeks in November.

Many of the locals, who had enraged red faces for the past few weeks, should notice the tint in their cheeks subside just in time for spring to arrive. They'll head out to the same great ballpark, park for free, experience the same great atmosphere, pay the same great low prices, watch the same great quality of play, with the same great family crowds in 2013.

The only people who would actually refuse to watch Reading's Double-A team next year, because their name was slightly adjusted, should seek immediate mental health treatment for the condition known as: "Get-over-yourself-and-grow-up".
