Philadelphia Flyers: Amnesty for Briere and Bryzgalov?

One of the new elements that will be part of this NHL off-season is amnesty.

As the Philadelphia Flyers consider who to amnesty (and when to do so) the name of Danny Briere has naturally entered the media conversation. Two guaranteed years, with an accompanying $6.5 million per season salary cap hit, makes him a clear candidate for roster removal.

However...simply removing that money won't help the Flyers to gain much cap space because the cap ceiling will be lowered to $64.3 million starting next season.

While other players and their salaries will also be subtracted before next season begins, will the team have enough money to truly reload if they decide that Briere is the only amnesty option?

Considering all pending free agents: Simon Gagne, Ruslan Fedotenko, etc., there will be more money released. But, one has to wonder if Bryz will be among the missing.

It's hardly certain, but would symbolize a deep consensus to move forward aggressively.

Terrorists Aren't The Only Ones Who Want Us To Fight

(Photos of Martin Richard and Krystal Campbell courtesy of abcnews.com and fox5atlanta.com)

The bombings at the Boston Marathon were acts of terror. But, terrorists aren't the only people who want to create dissent.

People we know in our everyday lives attempt to insight discord by politicizing each terrorist event that's occurred in recent history.

Don't look for the name of either United States major political party in these lines, as you won't find an ally of either here.

The terrorists who create various events (or the terrorist who creates just one) don't (doesn't) simply want to create destruction. These people also want to create ongoing division

Many people obviously took the 9/11 bait and then used it to attack their fellow Americans. Since that day others have used other public acts of terror to shout their political views, or not-so-hidden support for whatever candidate, into the world.

Don't be fooled into believing that terrorists are the only ones who  want disharmony. There have always been and will always be people who want to tear down what the United States represents, flaws and all.

Those individuals offer some idealized world as a replacement goal. Their motives and actions have been, are and will remain dangerous.

In my opinion (which isn't a fact) those personality types are terrorist enablers. Some of those people aren't aware of that point. Others knowingly embrace it.

Boston Marathon Bombings: The Terrorists Want Us To Fight Each Other

(Photo courtesy of ESPN, via the Richard family)

The photo shown above is Martin Richard. He was eight-years-old when he was killed by terrorists in Massachusetts on April 15, 2013 at the Boston Marathon.

The bombings, like so many other terrorist acts create rightful emotional reactions. As a human being, I have no problem with that. However, I have had and do have a problem with the manner in which people begin to attack each other after these incidents happen.

DO PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT'S PART OF EVERY TERRORIST'S INTENT? They want to tear whatever society they attack apart by pitting people against each other.

Most, if not all, of us have heard others use tragedy as a weapon to loudly shoot their mouths off about various elected officials (from both parties) after 9/11 and after other tragic events. Those 'personality types' also have no problem attacking anyone who they disagree with either.

I believe that those individuals aren't that far removed, if they are removed at all, from the same type of warped view of reality that the terrorists see.

Let me be clear: Terrorists have no solutions. They only want to destroy what currently exists. That's not a productive political message.

Every person who has ever opened his, or her, mouth about any of our Presidents (including the last one, or the current one) and actually believes that either of those people represent what's wrong with the United States is misguided.

People of goodwill understand that the majority of humanity wants what's best for everyone else. Don't allow anyone to use tragedy to push their own agendas. (And no, that's not what I'm doing in this case.)

My message goes out to the terrorists who commit these violent acts and to those members of the public who knowingly serve as willing pawns in their death games.

Post from 4/15/13
Life in the United States has never been ideal. Romanticizing the past removes the realities of death that surrounded the courageous fight to gain Independence and everything that has happened since.

Every person who has ever shrugged off the removal of established rules within society and common sense practices has been and will always enable problems.

When people live in a fantasy world they choose to believe that there will be no consequences, or are 'surprised' when any tragic event occurs - like the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Always ignore everyone who argues that rules don't matter, that all life isn't sacred and that there is no right and wrong.

And no, I'm not in favor of the death penalty. Instead, I believe that life in prison without parole is the better punishment for all violent crimes.
