Phillies

Will Dontrelle Willis' arm issues be resolved so that he has a fair shot to make this team?

Will Chad Qualls be nearly as effective in a set-up role as Ryan Madson has been over the years?

Will Jonathan Papelbon's jersey become a hot property at Citizens Bank Park all season long?

These questions and many others will be answered as time moves forward and the Phillies get set to play ball !!!!

Flyers

The Flyers faced the Maple Leafs tonight in Toronto. This once proud franchise has hit the skids for many years. It would be great for their fans and for the game if they can rise to prominence once again.

Flyers

Game against the Maple Leafs reminded me of Lindros and Sittler.

Eric only played one season for Toronto a few seasons after leaving Philly. Sittler came to the Flyers for years after starting there.

The link: Both were great players who played in two great hockey towns.

Pronger's eye injury & Jagr and Hartnell's 2 goals

TY to over ---810,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

Two goals by two Flyers would generally make for a good story. But, not last night.

Wow, was that scary. Seeing Chris Pronger leaving the ice screaming after he was hit around, or on, his eye against the Maple Leafs.

I felt particularly bad because I had just been with him less than a month ago.

I interviewed Pronger in the Flyers' locker room after practice in Voorhees.

While he is a very physically imposing presence, he is also a good guy to talk with.

The man truly seemed like he was healthy and ready to skate into the new season.

I thought last night about also interviewing Bernie Parent a year ago. He told me that his vision was restored through surgery.

Increased equipment protection must be imposed in the NHL. The lives of these men matter too much.

Flyers + Maple Leafs

TY to over ---810,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

The game against the Maple Leafs should prove to be another solid check point for this refreshed Flyers team.

Their starting goalie, James Reimer, isn't expected to start due to injury. So, Jonas Gustavsson will get the nod.

This early in the season matchups, goaltenders and other such matters aren't nearly important as getting your own legs under you.

This team has a mix of veterans and young players that will likely be developing all season long.

As Phillies sleepwalk, Flyers cakewalk

TY to over ---725,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, interview and news articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

Uh, boys. We want to see win number 102 by early next week at the latest. That will make you guys the best regular season Phillies team of all-time.

This stern attitude will help you in October by the way.

Get it done.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... our returning friends and collection of new faces smacked the Maple Leafs 4-0 in the first preseason game.

It's always unusual in September, as baseball is gearing up for the playoffs, while hockey and football just get going. (Basketball should be as well, but that is another blog post for another day.)
