Relentless Persistence and Success in Life

What achievers believe...

I always hear a common theme whenever I have the opportunity to interview anyone who is successful. Achievers recognize that they have talent, but are also willing to work to develop it. They are open to learning, seek advice and don't allow the comments of detractors to stop them.

Relentless persistence means pushing forward every day, despite what happened yesterday. Yes, circumstances change and life will not always be perfect, or even ideal. But, today and tomorrow often become more than could have imagined.

Ranked Among Yahoo's Top 100 Writers

Success Doesn't Just Happen

I was recently notified by Yahoo.com that my writer ranking in 2012 had increased, as compared to 2011. In 2011, I was listed among the site's top 1,000 writers per combined online hits for all articles written.

At the end of 2012, I was ranked among their Top 100 writers. Click on my Contributor Page to see the 2011 and 2012 badges.

Yahoo advised that it had 600,000+ contributors as of last year. Those contributors varied from people who wrote one article per year, to those who write on a daily basis.

I've been associated with Yahoo's content arm since my first article "Retired NHL Referee Kerry Fraser is Still Making the Right Calls" was published on February 1, 2011.

As a Contributor (paid writer) I'm asked to create feature articles, at my preference, or upon assignment, based upon the news of the day.

My most recent feature: State of the Union Address: Commonsense Gun Response Warranted was written in response to an assignment from the Yahoo News editorial team after the President of the United States gave his address.

I decided to adapt my old print writing skills to the online world in 2010. I never expected the success I've been fortunate to enjoy. However, this didn't happen because of luck.

I was not in the right place at the right time. My free will allowed me to use the base my family built for me since I was a child, my college degree, my teaching license and my God-given talent to make all of this happen.

There will always be people in the world who will respond to the success others have by emotionally claiming that it wasn't earned, but purely developed because of "luck".

Ask those people why they believe that they are experts on anyone's life, other than their own? There's obviously no credible answer to that question, which also reveals the lack of confidence detractors have about their own lives.

If it's possible, try to help those people see that they can accomplish their own goals (modest, or major) if they are willing to try.

My writing success represents what I consider to be a modest accomplishment in my own life. This accomplishment guarantees that no further progress will be made. I have to work each day to make that happen, as does everyone else in the world.

Money and Brains: Writing Online (Day 2)

Due to the strong response to yesterday's information (thank you social media friends), this feature is being re-posted...

Earn Money By Writing Online

I've been associated with the content arm of Yahoo.com for the past few years. They are a reputable organization because they offer payment, on varying scales, in return for your written work.

As one of their Contributors (paid writers) I'm asked to write certain feature articles, at my preference, based upon the news of the day.

My most recent feature:

State of the Union Address: Commonsense Gun Response Warranted

was written in response to an assignment from the Yahoo News editorial team after last night's address to the nation by the President.

While writing for free can offer new writers exposure, all experienced writers know that it's generally best to offer your writing skills in return for compensation.

Writing is part of my profession. Since it's not a "hobby", I offer my time and effort in return for payment in a variety of forms. Of course, it's okay to write for family members, friends, or charitable causes on a volunteer basis.

But, you should always be leery of any revenue-based ventures (that are operated by individuals who you don't know) that don't want to tell you what their pay structure is up front, or guarantee a share of their proceeds with you through a written, or online contract agreement.

Ask yourself if you would work for anyone in a traditional business and not get paid for it?

Again, if you don't have experience and need published sample articles (as in two, or three) that's fine. But, make sure that you aren't taken advantage of by writing for individuals, or companies, that make money from your free labor.

I was taught how to be "street smart" by many positive supervisors and co-workers during the start of my career in the 1990s. I hope that my post today helps you to make progress.
