Flyers resilient traits likely to remain

Flyers

The Flyers loss to the Islanders was the latest in a series of uneven efforts the team has made.

In light of the amount of road games they have played, the Winter Classic 'episode' and the obvious results of the roster changes/fluctuations, they are still a good team overall.

Have to give this team credit for resiliency, it's a trait that I anticipate will continue through the spring.

Flyers

Briere's hat trick against the Senators revealed many things. Here are two:

1. Danny B. is still a goal-scorer, despite having an off year. If he can get hot down the stretch and into the playoffs (where he has played well in the past) that will help this particular team greatly.

2. The Flyers are consistently resilient this season. They dropped a winnable game in the Winter Classic, eek out a win against the Blackhawks and then snatch an overtime victory against Ottawa. They may have the ability to do a little something in the playoffs, despite the fact that they aren't suited to win the Cup this season.

Eagles Future + Flyers & the Winter Classic

Eagles

The final game against the Washington Redskins was bittersweet win that took the team to the .500 mark at 8-8.

Next season, the Birds must find a way to stop turning over the ball so much and need Vick to remain healthy. With those two elements in place they can return to the playoffs and take their chances.

As for the head coaching and assist coaching matters - time will tell what's done, or whether any changes were needed, took place, or were worthwhile.

Winter Classic

The Flyers and Rangers face off in the Winter Classic in Philadelphia. Magic is one of the words that can best describe what has become one of professional sports best true 'events'.

Final Eagles Game + Flyers & the Winter Classic

Eagles

The final game against the Washington Redskins was bittersweet.

The offseason should bring change, because that is the only way that next season isn't like all others since 1960.


Winter Classic

The experience of covering the Winter Classic was beyond memorable.

The Flyers organization is accurately recognized as one of the best in sports. They also treat the media with class as well.

The access that we were given to the players after the game in the locker room was fully open.

All of the guys were in such a good mood and were willing to talk at length about the game, their careers and their lives.

Working in sports two decades ago left a positive memory in my mind. Modestly returning to this field in 2010 has been a pleasure.

Winter Classic

I will be providing inside access to the Winter Classic Alumni game from Citizens Bank Park, where I will be attending the event as a member of the media. The NHL has been very gracious to all of us who are involved in this spectacular.

I look forward to being able to provide images and words in this regard, as well as follow-up stories during the days that follow.

Flyers

With the Winter Classic game just around the corner and the Alumni game this weekend, the Flyers have one final 2011 regular season game against the Pittsburgh Penguins to play today.

It's not a good thing for the Pens, or for the League, that Crosby is out indefinitely. It should be interesting to see how his absence affects this particular game tonight.

Bobrovsky will start in goal, as Bryzgalov's struggles have reappeared in his game.

Flyers

The Flyers take their final steps to the Winter Classic contest with the New York Rangers this week by playing some indoor games. The first will be against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in Florida.

This is the team who has been trying to reintroduce the trap to hockey fans around the NHL.

Let's hope they don't have success this season, because the trap killed hockey thrills and attendance in various locations before rule changes were made in the game.

Phillies - Braves dilemma & Flyers' Winter Classic

Phillies -


Here is the rub for the Phils. Sweep Atlanta and earn their greatest regular season win total (102) of all time, or don't.  


If they don't, the Braves might be the Wild Card team edging out the St. Louis Cardinals. 


The Cards have been hot and would be the Phillies initial playoff opponent.  Probably not the best matchup. 


The Phillies could also finish with less than 102 wins and still face the Cards. 


That's baseball. 


Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... the Winter Classic was officially announced.

What a cool event! One of the best ideas the NHL has implemented in a long time.

Looking very forward to the January festival against the Rangers in Citizens Bank Park.
