Philadelphia Phillies Take Their Last Breath

Headline Topic: Phillies' Last Breath

The Phillies' consecutive playoff run is just about to officially end, as they have a Wild Card elimination number of 1. My own hope is that they can finish at .500, or even one game above.

What a great era in team history. Here's hoping this season is just a one-year slip.

Recent Headline Topic:  Hope for Phillies' Darin 'Babe' Ruf

Seeing Darin Ruf hit numerous home runs out of a Double-A park in Reading was thrilling. Seeing him hit his first major league home run, during the first game that he started in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies was priceless (to coin an advertising cliche.)

Will he actually develop into a major league player? Could that happen by next season? No one knows the answers to these questions, but that is one of the great things about baseball. Personal stories have always drawn me to this specific game.

If you want to read more about Ruf, feel free to read my Yahoo article about him that was published last night.

Recent Headline Topic: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.

Classic Headline Topic: The Phillies and MLB Wild Card expansion

The Phillies' game with the Mets was postponed due to rain. So, Cloyd has been pushed to Thursday and Hamels will go tomorrow. With every win being vital, we'll see if the Phils can pickup (or will lose) a 0.5 game tonight.

Classic Headline Topic: The anniversary of Pete Rose's 4,192 hit.

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

Philadelphia Phillies' Run Almost Over + NFL Referees Coming Back

Headline Topic: Phillies' Run

The Phillies consecutive playoff run is just about to officially end, as they have a Wild Card elimination number of 2.

It's been great, there are positive points to be taken from this season. But, like everyone, I will miss the excitement and World Series potential of October.

Let's get back there again next year boys!

Headline Topic II: NFL Referees

Today's news states that the NFL Referees are coming back. Never have people who are so hated been so wanted.

Hopefully, everyone (meaning the NFL, the players, bettors, and the fans) have learned a valuable lesson. Yeah, we know they haven't. But, you know what I mean anyway.

Babe Ruf's Phillies' Party + NFL's Consumer Fraud?

Yesterday's Headline Topic: NFL - More Than A Blown Call

Though baseball and hockey are my main sports of interest, I have to say something about the blown call that happened on Monday Night Football at the end of the Seattle Seahawks - Green Bay Packers' game.

What the heck?!!!

How can the NFL justify using rookie referees after last night's debacle. The Seahawks didn't win that game, yet they are listed as the winner.

Consumer fraud is a serious charge, but the integrity of every professional game played matters.

This is just wrong. The Networks ($$$) must force the NFL to resolve this ASAP.

Can you possibly imagine the Super Bowl ending in that manner? ...and what would happen around the world if it did. I'm serious.

Philadelphia Phillies Prospect Darin Ruf Wins MVP and Sets Record

Phillies

Darin Ruf has made himself into a prospect at Double-A Reading this season. Winning the Eastern League MVP and breaking Ryan Howard's single-season home run record (by hitting 38 home runs this season) doesn't guarantee anything. But, all honest fans have to be rooting for him to play LF in Philadelphia in the relatively near future.

Flyers

What is the name of the Flyers ECHL affiliate?

For those who don't know, the answer is found in my Yahoo Sports article:
NHL lockout could serve some Philadelphia Flyers' Purposes

Eagles

All the best to Andy Reid and his team tonight. This season isn't just about football this year for the Eagles' head coach.

I wish him a SUPER BOWL year.

Sixers

The 76ers major summer trade should help the remaining members of last season's playoff group to become that much better.

This has become a far more balanced squad through all of the offseason moves. Most importantly, they will be led by Doug Collins who is ready to take his basketball team to new heights.
