P.K. Suban to be Traded to the Philadelphia Flyers?

Potential Flyers' news:

Rumors about the Flyers trading for Montreal Canadiens' restricted free agent defenseman P.K. Suban make sense, because it's hard to imagine Philadelphia competing for the Stanley Cup with the blue line contingent they currently have.

Considering the recent injury to Andrej Meszaros and the lack of depth on the blue line before "Mez" was lost, Suban would be a fine fit on this squad. The cost to obtain him is the question, as well as salary cap related issues connected to whatever his new contract would be worth.

Babe Ruth Lives! Read on baseball fans...

Baseball news:

It was exhilarating to see Darin Ruf hit those white hot comets last season in Double-A. 38 Double-A home runs, 3 more for the Philadelphia Phillies after being called up and then another 10 in the Venezuelan League.

Wow was that young man "Babe Ruf" great last year!

Along with his rise came the chants of decent, which were reflective of the personalities who mouthed them. Some people hope for others success, while a stubborn minority of "fans" always choose to believe that whoever won't do whatever during any game, series, season, or potential career.

The Phillies appear willing to give "Babe Ruf" a chance to win the left field job this spring. Whether he can, or needs more time in the minors isn't the point. Whether he has a long career and becomes the next face of the franchise also isn't the point.

The fact that this guy believed in himself is the point. His story, like all unexpected surprises, will also continue to reveal what lies within the hearts and minds of other people.

Recent headline: Inside Access with the Philadelphia Flyers

It was another positive visit to training camp yesterday. The Flyers' organization has always treated me with respect and decency. It is rightfully recognized as one of the best in the city and in all of sports.

The assembled roster for this 2013 half-year is good. Time will tell if this team can have in-season player development among the "youngsters", withstand injuries and also beat better competition during the first 48 and expected subsequent spring session.

Game day, today against the Pittsburgh Penguins, looks to be a nice iced treat.

The members of the Philadelphia media are only seen through their words and media appearances. Behind the scenes, they are a solid collective group of hard-working, talented people. Much as in any profession, their efforts generally go unnoticed (or are not fully appreciated) by the general public.

Working in the media - be it on a FT, PT, or freelance basis, is not an easy endeavor. Travel, long hours, pressured deadlines, etc. are all accomplished by those people who can meet the challenge.

Philadelphia Phillies' Intriguing Free Agent Acquisition

Phillies' news:
The Philadelphia Phillies are going to attempt to have both corner outfield spots primarily manned by players who weren't with the team at the start of last season.

Darin Ruf remains the choice in LF. He will likely platoon to start and then play more if his production warrants it.

Delmon Young will be given a shot to win the RF job outright. Yes, he will be the team's new RF if he plays well.

Both men could potentially be solid positive (very low-cost) additions to the team, but won't wow anyone with their defense.

Martin Luther King, Jr. + Sports and Social Change

This information has been re-posted in its entirety again this year. I believe that the contents will (or should) always be relevant, as you will now see:

MLK

Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for the inclusion of people who he believed were left out of society.

As a Christian minister he chose to follow the path of non-violent social protest to accomplish his goals. He surrendered his life for his beliefs and in return helped to create better lives for an infinitely untold number of people.

He worked in the arena of social change.

Another method to change society is called politics, which is an attempt to legislate life. That approach is needed sometimes when wrongs need to be righted, but is laden with understandable constraints.

Sports

Sports has developed into one of the greatest vehicles for achieving social change in modern society, because progress is 'pushed' through a different dynamic.

Fans root for everyone on their 'team' to succeed. That inclusive mentality creates an ever-evolving awareness that all people have unique talents and abilities.

There is no doubt in my mind that sports has leveled the social playing field for many young athletes. It has and will continue to bring people together to root for common causes.

Like any part of life, sports isn't perfect. But, in the end it will continue to promote the equality of all people.
