2012 Baseball Election: Who are your top-ticket picks?

Re-posted due to popular demand!...

Headline Topic:  Presidential Ticket Choices

While I'm following the playoffs, there are no Phillies' games to seen. As such, it's  clearly time to consider which two Phillies' players would serve as an alternative Presidential ticket in an all baseball world.

Presidential Candidate:  Roy Halladay

This doctor isn't operating like he used to, but should still be able to get the job done.

Vice Presidential Candidate:  Kyle Kendrick

'KK' has proven that he can step-up and get the job done when needed. He's a true supportive friend to anyone in the top spot.

or

Presidential Candidate:  Kevin Frandsen

Yes, he's an alternative political choice, but man did this gritty guy know how to hit the ball squarely.

Vice Presidential Candidate:  Erik Kratz

Anyone who can throw a runner out at second base from his knees and slammed a number of home runs has earned a backup spot.

or

Presidential Candidate:  Jimmy Rollins

The old dog knows how to defend his turf and still knows how to get the baseball economy going.

Vice Presidential Candidate:  Darin Ruf

This young pup has shown remarkable power. With just a little bit of seasoning, he might be ready for prime time.

or

Presidential Candidate:  Cliff Lee

He inherited the run support of Cole Hamels, but didn't complain about it. His numbers were also as good as anyone on the political baseball scene in Philadelphia this year.

Vice Presidential Candidate:  Jonathan Papelbon

Yes, he's kooky (and we have seen that in a VP before). But, the man is loyal and gets the job done. What more do you want from the second in command?

ATTACK AD --->>> If there is anyone who doesn't like this type of lighthearted humor, my recommendation is that you get over yourself. It costs you nothing (including your precious time) to read this blog post. So, deal with it.

As for the rest of us...cast your vote!  :-)

Headline Topic II: Eagles

Turnovers hurt the Eagles in their game against the Steelers.

If they continue to play like this through the regular season, they could still make the playoffs. But, how far could they realistically be expected to advance toward the Super Bowl?

Recent Headline Topic:  Hope for Phillies' Darin 'Babe' Ruf

Seeing Darin Ruf hit numerous home runs out of a Double-A park in Reading was thrilling. Seeing him hit his first major league home run, during the first game that he started in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies was priceless (to coin an advertising cliche.)

Will he actually develop into a major league player? Could that happen by next season? No one knows the answers to these questions, but personal stories have always drawn me to this specific game.

Here is my feature article about him.

Classic Headline Topic:  The Best Phillies of the Current Era

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

Classic Headline Topic: Three Flyers' Legends

Each of these Flyers' legends (Brian Propp, Dave Poulin and Tim Kerr) deserved their own feature article:

Recent Headline Topic: Eagles-Giants' Game

Both teams are 2-1. This looks to be a game the Eagles should win.

Divisional and Conference games matter just as much now as they do later in the season. The Birds can't let this one slip away.

It will be interesting to see how Vick performs in what has been an erratic effort to-date.

Recent Headline Topic: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.

Philadelphia Eagles - Pittsburgh Steelers' Game + My Cousin Who Played for Both Teams

Headline Topic: Eagles

Any Eagles - Steelers game matters.

Having a cousin (John Schweder) who was property of both teams many years ago, splits my loyalties.

I'll be interested to see if Vick can adapt his game and how the Eagles' defense plays in each quarter.

Here's wishing the best to the men on both sides.

Headline Topic II:  J-Roll/Ruf or Lee/Papelbon?

Presidential Candidate:  Jimmy Rollins

So, for however many days this takes, I will be presenting a series of competing Presidential tickets that feature one pair of Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates per day.

Philadelphia Phillies' Questions + Philadelphia Eagles' Wish

Phillies

How will Polanco handle a bench/platoon role?

Will Hamels get close to 20 wins this year?

Will any bullpen guys, beyond Papelbon, truly distinguish themselves as the schedule plays out?

Eagles

All the best to Andy Reid and his team tonight. This season isn't just about football this year for the Eagles' head coach.

I wish him a SUPER BOWL year.

Sixers

The 76ers new ownership group is incredible. Now that this trade has apparently been made, the team has been transformed from last season's playoff group.

This has become a far more balanced squad through all of the offseason moves. Most importantly, they will be led by Mr. Doug Collins. That great coach is ready to take Philadelphia's basketball team to new heights.

Flyers

The injury that Andrej Meszaros suffered last week (torn right Achilles tendon) was repaired by surgery today. Obviously Philly fans connected this dire dot to that of Ryan Howard's same injury (left Achilles tendon) that happened at the end of last season.

Losing Meszaros is very troubling for this Flyers team. I'm not sure how Holmgren can compensate. Basically he and Peter Laviolette need two of their young defensemen to step up and play well all season long.

Baseball cards

For those of us who are old enough to remember When Baseball Cards were King, the spring is always a special time of year.

Bygone days spent with elementary school days and family members opening packs of Topps cardboard gold never truly fade away.
