All Saints Day: Believers and Nonbelievers Agree

(Feel free to be in touch if you feel that I can help you, your family, or your friends.)

All Saints Day and All Souls Day

All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1. (Halloween being the somewhat secular precursor on October 31.)

Some people are afraid of the hereafter or believe that life after death doesn't exist. If you aren't a believer, why not choose to leave your options open?

It's far easier to live in this world if you believe that there's more to reality than the here and now. This philosophy of living also isn't superstitious, or offensive to others, regardless of what some might claim.

Saints, sinners, and all the rest

Saints are people who lived their lives in such a way that they are believed to have achieved an eternal reward in the afterlife, aka heaven. But they also remain connected to everyone on this earth.

All Souls Day (November 2) involves the more complex idea of unpurified souls who undergo a spiritual cleansing before heading through the pearly gates. This assumes humans have souls, as opposed to those who believe humans are only evolved animals. (Which notion is the more 'progressive' thought?)

Believers and Non-Believers Agree About The Big Bang

I say to non-believers: You choose to believe that our existence appeared out of nowhere one day. Well, believers agree with you.

Yes, that's right. Believers also think that everything came from nowhere. But they also believe that God chose to create it all.

Which is the fairy tale: Everything came magically from nothing, or that a supreme being (God) created everything from something?

Why not choose to believe that there is more to life than what we see. That's what an 'open-minded' person would do.

Happy Halloween to everyone everywhere!

(The immortal cartoonist Charles Schultz and his incredible animator Bill Melendez are credited with the image shown above.)

I look forward to becoming friends on Facebook
Let's connect on LinkedIn and on Twitter @SeanyOB.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween was always a favorite when I was young. Trick-or-treating with family and friends was a major and deeply anticipated event!

Dressing in a variety of costumes and heading to elementary school for our parade remains a treasured memory.

Later in life I've had the pleasure of joining friends at a number of light-hearted adult costume parties. It's as fun now as it was way back when.

Everyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously has and will always enjoy this time of year.

Happy Halloween to everyone everywhere!

As shown in the photo above, we all had a terrific time at the Children's Alopecia Project's CAP5K event this weekend in Leesport, PA.

I enjoyed signing books with Maddie for all of her fans and look forward to more moments like this in the future with all of the great CAP families.

An extensive Fox 29 Philadelphia television interview helped to announce the book's release.

Thank you to Stacey Stauffer (Fox 29 Philadelphia). She interviewed Madison Woytovich, her parents (Jeff and Betsy Woytovich) and me about the latest chapter in this inspiring story. Here's a video link to Stacey's wonderful feature.

A recent post ...

Interest surged in my Twitter account just a few hours after I had written a feature about Michael Muhney of CBS' 'The Young and The Restless'.

Tweet and ReTweet

The piece, which highlighted the monstrously great scenes involving 'Adam Newman', began to be ReTweeted and Favorited by a wide-variety of Y&R fans after Muhney himself responded to the feature.

One of the many great aspects of this modern internet age is being able to do a variety of 'things' that were never truly possible years ago.

Channeling Roger Thorpe

This strong actor reminds me of the iconic Michael Zaslow, who played a variety of characters on daytime television during his short, but great, life. Most famously, he became 'Roger Thorpe' on 'The Guiding Light'.

A good cause

More than just a talented, hard-working thespian, Muhney is also a family man who chooses to be involved in important charity work. One of those causes is: The LA Cancer Challenge, which benefits pancreatic cancer research. Click on that link when you get a chance. It's worthwhile.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every social media connection has helped my online features to generate millions (yes, millions) of internet hits since Labor Day weekend 2010. I remain deeply grateful to everyone for the attention that's been given to these sports, news and interview articles. I never expected this embrace, but am genuinely humbled by it.

Another edition of - Why social media friends matter!

I look forward to becoming friends on Facebook
Let's connect on LinkedIn and on Twitter @SeanyOB.
(Feel free to be in touch if you feel that I can help you, your family or friends.)

Thank you

I appreciate my friend Doreen McGettigan, who is also the published author of 'BRISTOL bOYZ STOMP', allowing me to guest-post on her blog today. She asked me to share information about how my new illustrated children's book 'Maddie Teaching Tolerance with a Smile' was born.

Her promotion and kind words are greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to that feature that offers 'behind-the-book-scenes' insight for fellow writers and all readers.

A recent post ...

The Philadelphia Flyers 1-7-0 start to the 2013-14 season is disastrous, plus it's the worst beginning to any season in franchise history. (Oh yes, the Flyers also possess the worst record in the NHL.)

Expect at least one trade and some other changes by the time the team begins play again next Thursday, October 24.

If history is an indicator general manager Paul Holmgren won't wait this storm out. However, with assistant general manger Ron Hextall a Flyer again (since the off-season), one never knows how long founder and chairman Ed Snider will wait before putting 'Hexy' in net again.

Thank You Doreen McGettigan - BRISTOL bOYZ STOMP

(Photo courtesty of Doreen McGettigan's BRISTOL bOYZ STOMP Facebook Page.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I look forward to becoming friends on Facebook
Let's connect on LinkedIn and on Twitter @SeanyOB.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doreen McGettigan is the author of 'BRISTOL bOYZ STOMP'. This riveting real-life read details the murder of Dorren's younger brother David.

I'm sending an early thank you today because my friend Doreen generously asked me to write a guest post on her blog about my new illustrated children's book 'Maddie Teaching Tolerance with a Smile'.

My post on her blog will be published in the near future. When it is I provide a link to it here.

'Social Media Lessons Learned: Building Friendships'

First, let me say that no one person is the 'expert' on how to be successful in the social media world. I don't consider myself to be any type of social media guru because I'm not one. What I'm writing about today is just my way of sharing what I've learned through the help of many good friends who I've become connected to through social media.

Since the entire digital world is still in its early stages of development, there are no magic formulas that allow unknown individuals, or companies, to achieve instant success. However, some principals hold true in this realm as they do in most other areas of life.

1. Friends

We all need to create, maintain and sustain friendships throughout our entire lives. The same is true within our online lives.

Sharing your friends content on Facebook and re-Tweeting other people's tweets, or suggesting that your followers follow their feed, clicking +1 on posts that you like on Google+ and endorsing colleagues on LinkedIn are simple things that you can do on a regular basis.

2. Common sense

Yes, there are people who use social media 'friends' as pure sounding boards, or as methods to ask for some type of informational help. Being used in real life is no different than being used on the internet.

Commons sense tells us that we should compliment people when they post an obviously important family photo, share information about a career-related promotion, or simply type a thought that is important to them.

Patting someone else on the back is always right.

3. Genuineness and consistency

Everyone has their off-days. But, if you expect other people to connect with you, to stay connected, or to suggest that others connect with you, then you must be genuine and consistent.

Be nice. Nice guys and nice ladies don't finish last. They share success together.

4. Act like you would in real life

Would you say, or do, anything online that you normally wouldn't do in real life? For most people, the answer is no.

Valuing the dignity of every person is crucial. It's easy to be decent and that's how we should try to behave all the time.

Thank you

And that's it for now my friends. I've always appreciated the solid feedback social media friends have offered to me and look forward to interacting with you about this post as well.
---Sean
