Philadelphia Phillies' Survival + 76ers' Revival

Headline Topic: Phillies live another day

A win against the Braves last night pushed the team's hopes forward again.

This playoff push is a day-by-day endeavor. We'll see what happens. What more can be said?

Headline Topic II: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.

Classic Headline Topic: The Phillies and MLB Wild Card expansion

The Phillies' game with the Mets was postponed due to rain. So, Cloyd has been pushed to Thursday and Hamels will go tomorrow. With every win being vital, we'll see if the Phils can pickup (or will lose) a 0.5 game tonight.

Pete broke Ty Cobb's hit record on 9/11/85. The man was unique in the annals of baseball history.

What do the Philadelphia Phillies' Late-Season Efforts Mean?

Headline Topic: What do Phillies' Late-Season Efforts Mean for This Season and Next?

An absolute wipe out last night of the New York Mets 16-1 reminded me of the 'good old days' (2007-2009) when the Phillies' offense was often humming. While it's still is a long-shot for the team to make the playoffs this season, at least fans can see that they are trying.

As far as next season goes: There still is a good core of players on this team. Along with them and a few other additions (at least CF, probably a LF and one solid 8th inning guy)  their is the potential for a playoff rebound next year.

Tim Kerr wasn't involved with the game, but it was interesting to learn that he has done some marvelous charity work for children since retiring.

Chase Utley's Position Switch Potential

Phillies

The idea of moving Utley to third base is very intriguing.

Rollins likely wouldn't have agreed to do so. Galvis might be able to return to second base next spring, which would recreate the dynamic duo we saw earlier this year in the Phillies' middle infield.

I hope Chase can remain healthy, so that he can give this option a try. If anyone has the desire to make this work he can. Doing so might also allow his career in red pinstripes to extend beyond 2013.

Eagles

All the best to Andy Reid and his team tonight. This season isn't just about football this year for the Eagles' head coach.

I wish him a SUPER BOWL year.

Sixers

The 76ers major summer trade should help the remaining members of last season's playoff group to become that much better.

This has become a far more balanced squad through all of the offseason moves. Most importantly, they will be led by Doug Collins who is ready to take his basketball team to new heights.

Philadelphia Phillies' Minor League Sensation

Phillies

Reading Phillies converted left fielder Darin Ruf  hit his 37th home run last night. That blast tied him with Ryan Howard for the R-Phils single-season home run record.

Ruf's summer story has been one of the high and hopeful points in the Phillies' organization this season.

Baseball is about hopes for many. My family, friends, and I are enjoying his great ride and wish him all the best along the way.

Phillies - Mets game and what could have been

Phillies

It's a shame tonight's Phillies - Mets game doesn't mean more than it does. Thankfully the Phils have been playing well recently.

You never know how any series can go. But, maybe it's possible for Manuel's team to climb to the .500 level by season's end.

Sixers

Close out the Bulls on Thursday. Celebrate a fine achievement and move on to round 2. It's as simple as that.

Flyers

Assess, add some parts and go again next year. It's as simple as that.

Here is a hockey story that all ice fans will like: The mystery behind these 1970s Topps hockey cards is revealed.

Phillies

This team is nothing like the one that went on a five-year run.

The 1979 and 1982 seasons should be studied by all willing fans. Yes, the Phillies can rebound, play well and make the playoffs. But, that is far from guaranteed.

Baseball cards
