Philadelphia Flyers Beat Pittsburgh Penguins


Terrific Philadelphia Flyers' win over the Pittsburgh Penguins

 The Flyers and Penguins played a thrilling opening round playoff series last spring. It was high-flying, 1980s' style hockey. 

 Tonight, in Pittsburgh, we saw more of the same. 

 The Flyers 6-5 victory was easily the most exciting of this shortened season. It also revealed that both teams have defensive issues. But, that's a subject for another digital day.

Wow! What a first round playoff series! We expected a bloody battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but  got so much more than that.

It will be interesting to see who the second round opponent will be, because a more defensive-oriented team should create a different type of contest. As to how round 2 goes, is anyone's guess.

Phillies

This inconsistent lineup is a killer to watch. I wonder how the 'party crowd' at Citizens Bank Park will react this summer if a slight majority of games don't end in victory?

Game 4 Flyers bust, leads to another game-must for the Penguins.

Who knows what will happen at any moment in this totally undisciplined series.

Phillies

Cliff Lee's 10-inning gem was wasted last night in San Francisco.

Boy, this team's offense isn't fun to watch. It seems likely to continue, so when its on display at CBP this year, I wonder how much lost $$$ could result from people leaving games early?

Drop the Penguins in Game 4 and avoid further chance for injury.

Whenever the Flyers do win (which is never guaranteed until it happens), they must improve their defensive game. Laviolette's style is run-and-gun offensive pressure, but possibly a more defensive-minded future opponent will force better Philadelphia team defense to happen.

Phillies

If Halladay and Lincecum are both on tonight in San Francisco, there won't be a better show on however many hundreds of television channels anyone has in the entire world.

Lose today and then face the pressure Pittsburgh's force in Game 4.

Watching this offense this season likely won't create fun times at Citizens Bank Park this season.

The Flyers had the Penguins number once again last night. Can they continue to make that come-from-behind call again and again? That seems unlikely.

If Philadelphia can actually take the lead and go on to win Game 2 on Friday night, that will indicate that the Flyers momentum might be too difficult for the Penguins talent to overcome.

The playoffs are a strange animal, so this is all just pure speculation.

Phillies

"It seemed like yesterday once more..." remember that old tune? It played last night at Citizens Bank Park.

Who knows what this offense will do this season. That uncertainty seems unlikely to straighten itself any time soon.

Winning the game tonight against the Penguins would help matters significantly, as Bryzgalov would have likely gotten to a good start.

Pittsburgh is a very solid team and this playoff war should prove to be well worth the seasonal wait.
Phillies

This season will be very intriguing. However, on a pure excitement level, watching any team struggle for hits is no picnic.

Amaro might be compelled to make roster adjustments if enough runs aren't being generated within the next few weeks.
