Eagles' Jeffrey Lurie channels Phillies' Bill Giles circa the mid 1980s

Happy New Year to everyone who helped me to hit the one million reader mark during the weekend of 12/17/11. My first Yahoo Sports story was published on 2/1/11.

Eagles

Owner Jeffrey Lurie's analysis of his team, the coaching staff and the players brings to mind Phillies owner (actually co-owner) Bill Giles somewhere in the mid-late 1980s.

Sure, this analogy isn't totally accurate, because the Phillies had actually won a championship in 1980 and there was no long-standing manager (in this case coach) issue, but you know what I'm getting at.

The idea that the team is actually good and keeping everything in place will somehow bring different results seems like something a group of people all told each other.

Giles
I've met Bill Giles and he's a decent man. He also agreed to allow circumstances to change when David Montgomery took over as the team's lead for him years ago.

Giles also was the main man behind the Citizens Bank Park homerun.

Yo Jeffrey

If your analysis is wrong, the fans will begin revolting in ways that haven't been seen in Philadelphia, since...well...the mid-to-late 80s at Veterans Stadium during numerous springs and summers.
