Flyers - (Inside access)
Completing my notes about what it's like to cover a Flyers game from the press level:
After our time with the players had finished we then went to a separate press room, where coach Laviolette came to have his post-game press conference...
Shortly after we gathered in the press room Peter Laviolette came in to address us.
Approximately five minutes of time is taken answering questions.
I've often thought over the years, what it must be like at the end of your work day to be questioned by people about what you had just done. Plus, the public nature of the situation certainly adds to feelings of the moment.
Laviolette takes his job very seriously, as do the members of the press. The routine of this part of everyone's day grows repetitive, especially after non-descript games.
While the Flyers-Canadiens game I have been writing about resulted in a win, losses naturally create a different tone.
After the Flyers personnel informed us that the time for questioning had finished, we all exited. Laviolette to prepare for his next game against the Rangers the next day in New York - the Flyers staff for all remaining post-game duties that needed to be completed and the members of the media who went off to relay what had happened on this day through words and images...just as many others have done and will do in the world that is professional sports.
