Phillies

Ryan Howard's return sets up one last big party in Philadelphia. Unless wins start gushing, this could be the last stand of a solid Phillies era.

Rebuilding, retooling, revamping (or whatever takes place) will start this month in earnest unless the Phils make a sharp move right now.
Baseball cards

For those of us who are old enough to remember When Baseball Cards were King, the spring is always a special time of year.

Bygone days spent with elementary school days and family members opening packs of Topps cardboard gold never truly fade away.

Flyers

Nice Game 1 win. Brodeur was better than Bryzgalov and that needs to change, starting in Game 2. Another win there, could ice the series even it stretches toward the Penguins range.

Phillies

As the fans await the return of Howard and Utley, this lineup will eek along.

It's amazing that Pence has seemed to conform to what the other hitters are doing, versus displaying plate behavior that was solid last season. Group think seems to be in force.

Will Ryan Madson consider a return to the Phillies and vice versa, as he enters the 2012 offseason?

Will Jim Thome play most games against right-handed pitchers while Ryan Howard is out?

Will Charlie Manuel find an effective three-hole hitter?

Philadelphia Phillies affected by Howard's Injury + Philadelphia Flyers playoff push

Over 1.4 Million hits since my first Yahoo story was published on 2/1/11.

Phillies

Ryan Howard's open wound might set him back a bit. It will be interesting to see how he is physically able to handle this season, as his injury was very serious.

The Phillies need him in the lineup if they hope to win in the playoffs.

Flyers

Can't blame last night's loss to the Sharks on Bryzgalov, as the Flyers lost a 1-0 contest in the final game on their road trip.

This team is very inconsistent on all fronts. They still have time to smooth things out, with more than a month to play in the regular season. Laviolette is a great coach, which gives them an edge.

Phillies

Ryan Howard and the Phillies front office are both talking about him returning to the team around May.

Howard said today that he hopes to be feeling fully himself by July.

It will be very interesting to see what the Phillies offense is like without him.

Phillies Howard to start season on time?

Happy New Year to everyone who helped me to hit the one million reader mark during the weekend of 12/17/11. My first Yahoo Sports story was published on 2/1/11.

Phillies

It has been announced that Doctor's have cleared Ryan Howard to begin exercises.

The timing of this announcement might indicate that if all goes well, the Phillies first baseman could start the season sooner rather than later.

Of course we won't know what his physical progress truly is until spring training arrives.

Hopefully, he returns by the beginning of May and remains healthy throughout the year.

Phillies reach the end & Now onto the Flyers

TY to over ---760,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

An offense that was not able to produce led to the Phillies first-round sweep.

Any analysis that believes in some type of deep insight about matchups, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Charlie Manuel, etc. is really grasping at straws.

If you can't produce consistently at the plate in the playoffs your opponent would need to be even worse offensively for you to win. The Cardinals weren't.

The best team in baseball each season (meaning April through October, not April through September) wins the World Series. The Phillies were not the best team in baseball in 2011. At least four other teams (all of who have advanced to the League Championships) are better.

A long winter, followed by a different spring training are yet to come.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... They beat the Bruins in Game 1 and face the Devils in Game 2.

The Flyers will fly under the radar until January.

Depending upon how well, or how poorly, the Eagles do won't matter. People are into pro and college football for the time being.

This team will grow and possibly surprise as the season moves forward.

Phillies - Ryan Howard - Cliff Lee and History

TY to over 660,000 readers of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

What times we are living in my fellow baseball friends...

Ryan Howard has produced his sixth consecutive 30 homer, 100 RBI season.

Cliff Lee joined Bob Gibson and Walter Johnson as only the third pitcher to ever have two months, in the same season, with 5 wins and an ERA of below 1.00.

The Phillies had 19 shutouts and a staff ERA of 3.04 through August 31.

The potentially greatest season in Phillies history rolls on.
