Philadelphia Eagles Fire Andy Reid + NHL Lockout Ending?

Philadelphia Eagles: The end of the Andy Reid era is not one that I will be cheering.

He is among the best coaches to ever lead the team. I don't place him at the top, as there are many coaches who I never saw. Plus, winning percentages is only one measure of success. The many playoff appearances are also countered by the lack of a championship.

Rancor isn't on my tongue today. I wish him the best in his career and more importantly, peace in his family in 2013.

NHL Lockout: Multiple reports show that real progress is being made toward a settlement in the NHL lockout agreement. Cautious optimism must rule this day and the next few that will follow.

Philadelphia Eagles To Fire Andy Reid Within 24 Hours

Philadelphia Eagles: Various reports indicate that head coach Andy Reid will be fired within 24 hours of the team's crushing, season-ending loss (42-7) to the New York Giants. The loss dropped the Eagles' record to

This season's 4-12 record gives Reid an all-time Eagles' record of 130-93-1.

More on the person who is rightly considered the greatest head coach in team history in coming posts.

On a personal level I wish Andy the best and know that he is a genuine person outside of the media spotlight. What he went thorough this season, due to the death of his son, is unimaginable. Football is a job and he will get another one of those if he is, in fact fired and wants to continue working in the future.

Sixers' Story + Andy Reid's Philadelphia Eagles' Era

Headline Topic: Sixers

Lost among the Phillies' trade and free agent news, among the Eagles' woeful season and the ongoing NHL lockout is the Philadelphia 76ers.

It seems as though the Sixers traded for Andrew Bynum fully knowing that his knee issues might not allow him to play much, if at all, this season. Dropping the salary of A. Iggy and potentially losing the salary of A. By after this season was surely a part of their trade consideration.

Yes, they did sell tickets based on the premise that Bynum was going to be around from the start. But, hey this is business. The Sixers aren't our family members, or personal friends. They want to make money and have likely done that this year.

Hopefully Bynum will be able to play in the relatively near future, or before the playoffs. It's hard to imagine giving him new contract, for any terms of length of time. But, stranger things have happened.

Who knows, maybe he will play in the regular season and then help to lead the team on a postseason. Here's hoping.

Recent Headline Topic: Andy Reid

Two more games, one of which will be played at the Link in Philly, seems to signal the coming end of the Andy Reid era.

I, for one, am not cheering the man's departure. But, I also understand if the team decides to "move in another direction", buy him out and move forward.

What he has gone through with his son and to an infinitely lesser degree, this season, has been too much.

If this is to be the end, all the best to you and your family Andy.

Recent Headline Topic: Phillies

Anyone who truly knows the game fully understands that predicting who will and who won't make the big leagues is a crap shoot.

Many major league scouts who I had the pleasure to speak with while I was working for the SWB Red Barons in the 1990s told me that a variety of factors (most of which aren't controllable) combine to affect most "prospects" lives.

The Phillies Top Prospects (as analyzed by the ever-great Baseball America) is out. The list is always worth a look.

I believe that the Phillies' farm system has improved during the past few seasons, is producing players again and will continue to do so. It just might lead the team's resurgence as well.

Philadelphia Eagles Game-day + Three Philadelphia Flyers' Legends Detailed

Headline Topic: Eagles' Game-day

With practice behind them and the future ahead, I just want to simply wish Andy Reid and the Eagles all the best this season. In consideration of what the Reid family has endured and the face of courage that head coach Reid has shown during these past weeks after the death of his son, I have never hoped that man, his team, and all Eagles' fans will win the Super Bowl any more so than this year.

With all due respect offered for all of the great athletes on the field for every team - God Bless the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

Headline Topic II: Three Flyers' Legends

I enjoyed writing two features this week about Brian Propp, Dave Poulin, and Tim Kerr.
These three Flyers are among the best in team history, so it was natural to pass my 'writing puck' from Propp, to Poulin, and then to Kerr (on the power play of course) during the past three days.

It was great to see both Propp and Poulin at the Winter Classic Alumni game last New Year's Eve Day and to be with them in the locker room after the game. Both are classy gentleman.

Kerr wasn't involved with the game, but it was interesting to learn that he has done some marvelous charity work for children since retiring.
