Flyers

The Flyers won a loose game against the New York Islanders.

This Philadelphia team will need more than the next month to adjust the balance of its forward lines so that more two-way players are in place.

The defense will have one, or two, adjustments this offseason as well. As for the goaltending, it's Ilya Bryzgalov's crease through at least next season. Nine-years exists on a contract, but not in some potential future realities if he doesn't play consistently well.

Phillies

The Phillies need to use spring training to sort out of few minor roster issues and rev up for the regular season.

A critical year awaits this team of veterans and their newly added supplementary cast. We may very well see quite the drama play out, in one way or another, through spring, summer and into the fall.

Flyers

The Flyers loss to the Islanders was the latest in a series of uneven efforts the team has made.

In light of the amount of road games they have played, the Winter Classic 'episode' and the obvious results of the roster changes/fluctuations, they are still a good team overall.

Have to give this team credit for resiliency, it's a trait that I anticipate will continue through the spring.

Sixers

Doug Collins has his guys playing the game the right way. While the Sixers lost to the Nuggets at home was a close one, fans are right to remain encouraged that better days are ahead for their b-ball team.

As time moves forward (as in the next few seasons) all this team needs is a star to make them a true contender.

Flyers

The Flyers host the Islanders tonight in what seems like an endless series of dull in-season matchups with that particular squad. No matter how this game turns out, the New Yorkers are once again out of the running for the playoffs and don't offer fans a reason to go see this game, to watch it on tv, or to listen to it on the radio/online.

Are the Islanders ever going to be competitive?

Flyers notes

Flyers -

A trip to New York to play the Islanders has often generated good results.

Still playing without Chris Pronger and Braydon Coburn, it's difficult to tell how the team's defense will perform.

The Islanders have been shutout in two consecutive games. Possibly, the return of Jaromir Jagr will keep the pressure in their zone tonight.
