Philadelphia Phillies' Next Trades, Free Agent Additions

My new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available on Amazon.com. These stories were specifically written for people who like to read, but don't have much time to do actually do so. Humor, horror, mystery, adventure, travel, sports and a few selected stories are all wrapped inside this mini-tome. Thank you for considering this download.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headline Topic: Phillies

The Phillies aren't getting Josh Hamilton, or a plethora of other players who have signed with other teams.

So, Amaro needs to make a trade, or sign a free agent that bolsters the outfield. He can't head into next season with a thin part of that roster, as he did last season. That strategy could well cost the team a playoff contending spot next season.

The good news is that there is plenty of time left and some available outfield names. Here is a link my most recent Yahoo feature about two men that are probably worth the Phillies' time and money.

Recent Headline Topic: MMA Phenomena

I encourage fans of any sport to attend one of these events when you can. The excitement of the crowd and the efforts of the fighters will likely win you over to this superb athletic adventure.

Here is my most recent feature article about a live XFE Cage Wars event that I attended.

A Big-Name Philadelphia Phillies' Addition By Christmas?

My new eBook: Readers Who Have No Time for Words is now available on Amazon.com. These stories were specifically written for people who like to read, but don't have much time to do actually do so. Humor, horror, mystery, adventure, travel, sports and a few selected stories are all wrapped inside this mini-tome. Thank you for considering this download.

Headline Topic: Phillies

Varying reports say that the Phillies may, or may not, be "in" on the Josh Hamilton free agent chase. My guess is that they are involved. I don't know if they can actually get him though.

Now that Ichiro Suzuki is apparently staying with the New York Yankees, players like Cody Ross and Nick Swisher are still out there and can be had.

It would still be great for the Phils to swing a deal for Giancarlo "Don't call me Mike" Stanton. That might not happen until the trade deadline, next offseason or never. But, we can dream as gas from the offseaon's hot stove overcomes us all.

With whatever Ruben Amaro, Jr. does, I hope he does it by Christmas. That way the New Year can be welcomed with the starting lineup set in our minds.

Yankees and Athletics Offer Dueling Versions of Playoff Moneyball

Headline Topic: Baseball's Class Warfare

The following is a lesson in how to use the Yankees (rich kids) and the A's (poor kids) baseball playoff games to spout off about random topics:

Most people aren't rich, including me. But, I don't assume to know how other people got their money. I also don't care if they inherited it, or earned it. (If they stole it, or stole it from me, then I care.)

Many people carry childhood grudges about whatever personality types they were envious of through to their adult lives. I think that's a large part of what adults are saying when they talk about whoever they think is rich, or poor today.

Is the man with a million dollars in the bank, but who also has a broken family, wealthier than the man who makes $40,000 per year and has a wife and two kids?

Is the woman who chose to fully embrace a careerist mentality and then allowed strangers to raise her child, more successful than the woman who made sacrifices to stay at home with her children until they were of school age?

The answers to those questions break down on personality lines.

When we see people rooting for the Yankees, or the A's, or one of the two main Presidential candidates, we see who people really are.

I love baseball, but don't begrudge any professional baseball player, or any team, their just due.

I fully understand that injustice has, does and will always exist in the world. I have, do, and will always support (and become personally involved in) efforts to change things that I think need to be changed.

But, I will also enjoy life along the way. That last sentence is something that people who get too caught up in themselves don't seem to understand. We must never turn away from those people, but try and help them to see the whole world.

Recent Headline Topic:  Hope for Phillies' Darin 'Babe' Ruf

Seeing Darin Ruf hit numerous home runs out of a Double-A park in Reading was thrilling. Seeing him hit his first major league home run, during the first game that he started in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies was priceless (to coin an advertising cliche.)

Will he actually develop into a major league player? Could that happen by next season? No one knows the answers to these questions, but personal stories have always drawn me to this specific game.

Here is my feature article about him.

Recent Headline Topic: Eagles-Giants' Game

Both teams are 2-1. This looks to be a game the Eagles should win.

Divisional and Conference games matter just as much now as they do later in the season. The Birds can't let this one slip away.

It will be interesting to see how Vick performs in what has been an erratic effort to-date.

Recent Headline Topic: Tony DiLeo

The hiring of DiLeo as GM promotes from within and represents another feel-good move that the newest Sixers ownership group has made.

With Doug Collins seemingly likely to continue to have strong influence on this team, all signs remain positive for the resurgence of this basketball franchise.

Flyers notes + Phillies and Jorge Posada

Merry Christmas and an early Happy New Year to everyone who helped me to hit the one million reader mark during the weekend of 12/17/11. My first Yahoo Sports story was published on 2/1/11.

Flyers

The Flyers are getting set to play the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow. Between now and April, Ilya Bryzgalov needs to play more consistently. He has the career credentials to be better than he has been and needs to fully assume his number 1 goaltender status.

Phillies

An interesting story on csnphilly.com about the Phillies having had discussions with New York Yankees free agent Jorge Posada.

It appears that he was an option, but no longer is because of the players who have been signed since the offseason began.

Phillies - Cardinals Game 1 & Flyers' notes

TY to over ---740,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

As with past playoff years, the weather may play a factor in Game 1. (The Yankees and Tigers had their own first playoff game suspended because of rain.)

The Phillies really need Roy Halladay to have the opportunity to do what he does for a full game, without weather distractions. That gives them their best shot to win right out of the playoff box.

While Halladay is not invincible, he certainly is a red light player.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... They face the Devils tonight as the preseason begins to wind down.

Credit to coach Peter Laviolette, Captain Chris Pronger, and other players like returning veterans Danny Briere for keeping this team's motor running through a number of offseason transactions.

Each of Paul Holmgren's moves were designed to move the team forward in hopes of winning the Cup.

The Flyers are one of the classiest organizations in all of sports. That leadership starts with Ed Snider and is felt throughout the entire organization.

They always try to win and no one can ask for more than that. That honesty has built fan loyalty and a consistently competitive place in the NHL.
