Pujols 'crazy money' contract is fully justified

TY to over ---950,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Pujols signing -

One quarter of a billion dollars to play baseball.

Pujols is going to turn 32 in January and is on track to become baseball's all-time home run leader.

His career batting average is nearly .330, his OPS is over 1.000.

His career fielding percentage is .992.

I would start him at first base right now on an all-time team.

Crazy money to him for sure. But, his performance is crazy as well.

World Series Champions + Flyers notes

TY to over ---820,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

World Series -

The St. Louis Cardinals historic Game 6 victory was followed by an easy defeat of a Texas Rangers team.

Watching the last few innings, we could see in the eyes of the Rangers' players that they knew they were beat.

Congrats to the 2011 World Series Champion Cardinals. You have earned and deserve baseball's crown.

Flyers -

The team plays against the Hurricanes tonight in Philly.

Things have gone far off course recently. Hopefully, they get back on track soon so that this unit can at least remain steady until Chris Pronger returns to action.

Rescheduled World Series Game 6 + Flyers notes

TY to over ---820,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

World Series -

The postponed Game 6 brings to mind the classic Phillies two-part clinching World Series Game 5 in 2008.

Sure, the Rangers and the Cardinals didn't even start their game and then have it suspended. With the rain, it being October and still being in recovery about how 2011 played out for the Phillies - these images come to mind.

Flyers -

Bryzgalov had his shakiest game of the year last night when the team played the Canadiens.

He is learning his defense, the team is learning him and we are all learning our new number 1 goalie. It is very early and he has the resume to carry this team very far.

Rangers to win World Series tonight, or will Cardinals force 7th game? + Flyers

TY to over ---810,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

World Series -

In what has developed into an interesting 'Fall Classic', the Texas Rangers find themselves on the verge of their first-ever World Series championship.

I wonder what the reaction to Tony LaRussa's unusual bullpen moves in Game 5 would have been if they would have been made by any other manager...Say Charlie Manuel.

While a seventh game would be great, tonight could be the final time baseball is played in 2011.

Flyers -

Meanwhile Bryzgalov will be back in net as the Flyers faced the Canadiens.

He seemingly has worked out signals with his defensive partners and is ready to go. All part of the normal process of guys getting to know each other. Probably, no big deal.

Hopefully Chris Pronger's situation continues to improve as well.

Baseball's Hidden History + The World Series

TY to over ---790,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Baseball  -

If you ever have the chance to read Baseball in the Garden of Eden - The Secret History of the Early Game, please do so. Here is a link to the website.

All fans of the game we know as Base Ball (Baseball) will have their eyes opened by the facts that author John Thorn has researched and presented.

Not a revisionist history of recent days, or even olden days. This book proposes that a game called "Rounders", played in England was the basis for baseball. It openly states that Abner Doubleday did not invent the game, but was presented as its father as a form of fairy tale for domestic audiences.

There are fascinating photos that show professional integration actually happened in the 1800s, rather then the mid-1900s as has always been taught.

Albert Spalding, the ballplayer who became a famous sporting goods dealer, is cited as the man who also created the legend of baseball's history in the United States.

Read more to find out all of the details.

World Series -

No matter what anyone thinks, Tony LaRussa is to be credited with creating the wave that his Cardinals are riding to the World Series.

It's not just that his players are playing well at the right time, as he watches from the dugout. He is working the roster and creating his own reality show that will soon begin its next season against the Texas Rangers.

Phillies - Braves dilemma & Flyers' Winter Classic

TY to over ---730,000 readers---of my Yahoo Sports, interview and news articles since 2/1/11.http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

Here is the rub for the Phils. Sweep Atlanta and earn their greatest regular season win total (102) of all time, or don't.

If they don't, the Braves might be the Wild Card team edging out the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cards have been hot and would be the Phillies initial playoff opponent.  Probably not the best matchup.

The Phillies could also finish with less than 102 wins and still face the Cards.

That's baseball.

Flyers -

Meanwhile, off in Flyerville... the Winter Classic was officially announced.

What a cool event! One of the best ideas the NHL has implemented in a long time.

Looking very forward to the January festival against the Rangers in Citizens Bank Park.

Phillies - Are the '11 Cardinals the '10 Giants in disguise?

TY to over ---720,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

The team's recent four game series against the charging Cardinals brought to mind the 2010 Giants. Excuse me, the 2010 World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

No one wants to play a hot team in the playoffs. Sure, great teams beat any other team. But, that great team might be your opponent.

While it isn't October and that might matter, the Phillies should hope that the beat up Braves hang on and are the wild card team.

Milwaukee and Arizona pose their own challenges. Philadelphia doesn't need another strong contender in its playoff path.
