Eagles

The win over the Dolphins showed that the team does have heart and is battling.

I had the opportunity to interview Juan Castillo last spring and found him to be a very genuine person. His comments after the game about continuing to work hard only further revealed his sincere professionalism.

Flyers

The next week, or so, will tell us how Claude Giroux is really doing.

Concussions, or possible concussions, are such a tricky issue. Here's hoping that he is completely okay. The team can't afford to lose him for any sustained period of time.

Philadelphia Eagles Uncertain Future

TY to over ---960,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Eagles

The game against the Dolphins is the latest in a series of contests that purely play out the string of the season.

We really have to wonder what the future of this franchise is now, as the issues they face are hardly going to be resolved easily.

Generally, when a sports team is in a downward spiral, change happens within management. With whatever positive success Andy Reid brought to the team earlier in his career, that atmosphere doesn't exist now.

He is a talented person. Sometimes, things just don't go as planned and a change can benefit all parties. Despite the over-thought nature of this game, matters are as simple as has been stated.

Flyers newest dilemma

TY to over ---960,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers

Last night's win over the Lightning had many of the elements of this Flyers' season wrapped into it.

Great play by many veterans and youngsters alike. A decent performance by Ilya Bryzgalov and more injuries.

Giroux's head being accidentally hit by Simmonds knee during the game was cause for true despair. Here's truly hoping that he is completely okay. This team can't afford to lose him for a long period of time.

Far more important than that is his own health and career. He is a young superstar.

Penn State: Jerry Sandusky and the secular media storm

TY to over ---960,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Sandusky -

It seems as though the media hasn't sunk it's teeth into the recent news that Sandusky's family apparently was aware of his actions. Excuse me, alleged actions. There is at least one cowardly lawyer who has been paid to claim that he believes that this human being is innocent.

Clearly the first person who was responsible for all of these actions was Jerry Sandusky himself. Only those humanists who choose to believe that we are all actually higher forms of animals reject that common sense fact.

***By the way - there is no evidence in the fossil record (as in all fossils that have ever been discovered) that any species have ever morphed into any other species. Therefore without logical proof of that having occurred, certain personality types have simply chosen to believe that various life forms evolved into other life forms. And scientists say that those who believe in religion do so on the basis of nothing?

How often have you seen that information?

The bottom line

Sandusky knew that what he was doing was wrong and did so anyway.

In his own family, at least his wife knew that what he was doing was wrong. We don't yet know what she may have done to stop him.

Penn State is a corporation. Yes, it's a land grant institution as well.

It wasn't primarily Penn State's responsibility to stop Sandusky, it was Sandusky's. Then it was his wife's responsibility. After that, it was the responsibility of the rest of his family and the families of those whose children were being abused.

Those who believe in morality understand what is noted above. Those who don't, think that all the rest of us aren't smart enough to see what they do.

Flyers present and future

TY to over ---950,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Flyers -

The game against the Penguins last night was a nice win, but not a true test as Sidney Crosby didn't play.

The Flyers do have a young, energetic group with a nice mix of veterans like Timonen, Briere and Hartnell. The addition of Jagr has been tremendous as well.

Pronger's physical health and Bryzgalov's ability to be consistent will tell the tale of this season by spring's end.

Pujols 'crazy money' contract is fully justified

TY to over ---950,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Pujols signing -

One quarter of a billion dollars to play baseball.

Pujols is going to turn 32 in January and is on track to become baseball's all-time home run leader.

His career batting average is nearly .330, his OPS is over 1.000.

His career fielding percentage is .992.

I would start him at first base right now on an all-time team.

Crazy money to him for sure. But, his performance is crazy as well.

Penn State: Sandusky is jailed - that's the story

TY to over ---950,000 readers--- of my Yahoo Sports, Interview and News articles since 2/1/11. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Penn State:
The arrest and jailing of Jerry Sandusky on new charges keeps the focus where it should be.

Yes, we all understand that people in the Penn State bureaucracy are tied to the aftermath of Sandusky's actions. Let's never forget that his actions caused this entire situation.

It's easy for anyone who wasn't involved to say what they would have done. I know I have those same thoughts. But every person's reaction to what Sandusky did is simply a thought about the past.

Monday morning quarterback

Here's the thing: All of the Penn State people, whose names intentionally won't be mentioned in this post, aren't and never were bigger-than-life figures. They are people, just like you and me.

Everyone reacted and responded with whatever the force of their character allowed. I have a feeling that almost everyone who has questioned whether others should have done more to stop Sandusky have never been in a similar position and never will be.

In real life there are heroes on one end of the spectrum, there are cowards at the other and then there is everyone else in between.

Phillies: Winter Meetings Talk + Flyers notes

TY to over ---940,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

Jimmy Rollins may, or may not re-sign with the team. The thought of the team's lineup without him is intriguing. The thought of the infield without him is troubling, unless a great glove man replaces him.
And thus the rub of his free agency.

Bring in Aramis Ramirez for third if you can.

Wouldn't it be great if Madson would accept arbitration? Yes. Though, you would have to think that some team will offer him more than a one-year deal.

Flyers -

Conference realignment is technical talk for now. It will take a number of seasons to truly determine how it affects the team.

A big Phillies free agent acquisition in the near future?

TY to over ---940,000 people---who have read my Yahoo Sports, News and Voices articles this year. http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/977720/sean_obrien.html

Phillies -

The MLB network is reporting that the Phillies are interested in Cubs free agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez.

This player has the offensive resume to make a difference in the Phillies lineup. Yes, he isn't a great defensive player. But, his right-handed stick would beef up the middle of the order for sure.

When Polanco is healthy enough to play, he could be kept as a super-sub.

The ongoing Rollins' negotiations will affect, but not stop this from happening if it's meant to.
